An Update to COVID-19 Vaccinations in Missouri
WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT
- You should get the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as it is made available to you.
- Approved vaccines currently in use are safe and effective.
- Continue to practice mask wearing and social distancing until the spread of COVID-19 has stopped.
ELIGIBILITY IN MISSOURI AS OF MARCH 22, 2021
The State of Missouri has issued vaccine eligibility in phases and tiers.
Currently Eligible to Receive Vaccines:
- Phase 1A including healthcare workers and long-term care facility staff and residents
- Phase 1B
- Tier 1: First responders, emergency services, and public health infrastructure
- Tier 2: High-risk individuals including all residents over 65 and those over 18 with certain chronic health conditions
- Tier 3: Critical infrastructure and essential workers including, teachers, energy and utility workers, food and agricultural employees
On March 29, 2021
- Phase 2 workers in financial services, commercial facilities, higher education, the homeless and disproportionately affected populations
On April 9, 2021
- Phase 3 consisting of all remaining Missouri residents.
THREE APPROVED VACCINES
Pfizer/BioNTech
- Two doses given 21 days apart
- 95% effective against symptomatic COVID-19
Moderna
- Two doses given 28 days apart
- 1% effective against symptomatic COVID-19
Johnson & Johnson
- Single dose
- 72% effective against moderate to severe COVID-19 infections overall, and 85% protective against severe disease, with no hospitalizations or deaths after 28-days
While the State of Missouri has experienced growing pains throughout its vaccine roll out, over two million doses had been administered as of March 22, 2021. That means that about 23% of the Missouri population had received at least one dose. Patience and diligence are what health officials still request of the general public, noting that great strides have been made in a very short period of time.
